Eh, Blood Geek? I came here for some high quality science and I’ve seen none yet. What are you doing?
So you’re still here so far. Perhaps you’ve only just stumbled here and you’re wondering to yourself. Where is all the science? Well I’m here to answer that question for you and I’m writing a whole post about it because I want to leave my readers without a doubt in their minds as to the direction of this blog.
You’re entirely correct. This is to be primarily a science blog. It will incorporate a little student life, a bit of my personal journey as a scientist and also some interesting science. The point I’m eager to make in this post, is that regardless of your current level of scientific understanding, there is something here for you. Yes I plan to write scientific articles and with that comes a certain requirement of scientific literacy. The aim is to write articles that are completely accessible and understandable by all of you. Whether you’re starting from scratch and find it difficult to understand a lot of the information out there; or whether you’re an avid science reader or scientist yourself. There will be something here for you.
Anything I write will be thoroughly explained. In a more adept and functional writing style to begin with, followed by a conclusive explanation of what I’ve just said. My hope is that that this will help, not only to provide a level of writing appropriate to as many individuals as possible. But to also bring my readers along and allow them access to further scientific literature and writing.
Everyone has an ability to learn any of the sciences or any other subject for that matter. There seems to be a socially driven precipice, that once you leave the world of school or education that you’re done with a subject and you can learn no more of it. I wholeheartedly refute this argument. The only barrier to learning is the individual themselves. At any age or time of one’s life, if they can devote just a little time and effort to learning something, they can most certainly achieve their desired outcome. That’s why it is my goal, to push and drive the educational basis of this blog where I can. But fret not, there won’t be out of depth academic literature style writing making an appearance. It will be made appropriate for all as I’ve been trying to stress throughout this post. My goal is to bring you with me and push you all as much as I can within reason. If you’ll allow me to apply a favourite quote of mine to the scenario…
“A ship in harbour is safe. But that’s not what it was built for” – John A. Shedd
I implore you to take the dive. Follow the posts and learn something new. Allow yourself the magnificent feeling that is, understanding the very nature of yourself. How you work and why you work. Two key questions in every scientist’s mind. Certainly the “why” in particular is the one that keeps me pushing to learn more and gain a vaster knowledge base. I’ve often been compared to an annoying child in my scientific approach. Constantly running around asking why? Even when the answer is provided… but why? It’s a trait I’ve always had and always used. That desire to know and understand and most importantly (and annoyingly, much to the despair of those around me) never being satisfied with an unfinished answer.
Further labouring of my “Why?” agenda leads me to this. You should be asking why, also. By all means research for yourself and discover how these individual topics I’ll be discussing fit into the bigger picture. One of the most important points of learning human biology is this. Although we learn in a structured and topical manner. It doesn’t occur that way. All of these things are happening concurrently within you at an alarming rate. The big picture is there for you to discover. Furthermore, there is somewhere you can ask the “Why?” and receive a response…
Right here!
